I'm Carlos Gonzalez. For over three decades, I've been a writing professor at Miami Dade College, and for the past six years, I've been teaching yoga and meditation in a men’s and women's prison in Miami.
This work has led to the creation of a unique community that I'd love for you to be a part of.
Our community connects people on the outside with incarcerated women through a meditation-focused letter exchange program. This newsletter describes this transformative experience and invites you to consider participating in one of our cohorts.
These cohorts meet weekly on Zoom, offering a structured yet flexible way to engage with meditation and our letter exchange.
Each cohort aligns with the academic calendar, running for approximately 12 weeks during the fall, spring, and summer. This structure ensures a consistent and enriching experience for everyone involved.
Through our weekly Zoom meetings, you'll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of meditation, share insights, and prepare for your letter exchanges with the women in prison. It's a powerful way to connect, learn, and impact lives—both yours and those of the women we correspond with.
By signing up, you'll receive a weekly newsletter with updates, meditation tips, and stories from our community. Each short post offers a wealth of resources meant to help you integrate your meditation practice with your day to day life.
Joining Mindful Letters means becoming part of a meaningful dialogue that bridges diverse worlds. It’s an opportunity to enrich lives on both sides of the prison walls through shared experiences and support.
Warmest regards,
Carlos González
